Tonya Grothe-Bumgardner is a licensed marriage and family therapist, licensed professional clinical counselor, and registered play therapist supervisor. Tonya has sixteen years experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. Tonya is a graduate of Minnesota State University- Mankato, where she received her Master of Science degree in professional community counseling with a specialization in marriage and family therapy. In addition to her clinical practice she provides supervision and consultation for therapists seeking licensure as Minnesota or South Dakota LMFTs, Minnesota LPCCs, South Dakota LPC-MH, or registered play therapy certification. Tonya is also an AAMFT approved supervisor. Clinically, Tonya specializes in working with individuals of all ages who struggle with addictive behaviors, as well as individuals who have been traumatized. Tonya is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), and cognitive behavioral therapy. Tonya has worked extensively with both victims and perpetrators of sexual violence, adults diagnosed with personality disorders, individuals with impulse control disorders, as well as adults and children diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness. Tonya conducts adolescent and adult psychosocial and risk assessments, provides psychoeducation related to sexual education, facilitates anger, relationship, DBT, and offender groups, and works with couples and families. She also has experience and training related to working with children, DC 0-5, and a variety of issues relating to attachment, parent-child problems, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, family separation and reunification, as well as work with adults in the court system, adults and children in the mental health system, and children in foster or residential treatment settings.
